Many people may have supported the 13th amendment but many people did not and for lots of reasons. One of those reasons was because without slavery they couldn't make a living. Another reason as to why people opposed abolishing slavery was because of how they grew up and how they were raised. Many people grew up being told terrible things about African Americans and to stay away from them, these thoughts probably remained in their heads.
People in southern states like Texas, Louisiana, Alabama, and Florida depended heavily on agriculture and slavery to make a living. The grew crops like cotton and wheat and needed laborers to work on their plantations. Slaves provided this labor and worked for free, allowing the plantation owners to make more money. They felt that it was okay because African Americans were not important and they treated them terribly.
